We were blessed with wonderful parents who, like many immigrants, imbued in their children a strong sense of the need to attain a good education. They perceived that being educated was essential to “achieving a better life”. When American Martyrs Grade School opened, it allowed us the opportunity to begin our formal education in a Catholic school, a definite plus. Because of the benevolence of our Parish Priest, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and parishioners, we were able to attend this outstanding school and ultimately pursue a college degree.
We are eternally grateful to our parents and the American Martyrs’ community for their support which enabled us to obtain a very good education, both academically and in our Christian faith!
Our hope and prayers are that The Tortelli Family Scholarships will provide some assistance to graduates of Bishop Baraga Catholic School, so they can also pursue their dreams.
In loving memory of Clement and Virginia Tortelli
